Sunday’s message is on Commandment/Word Number Five as I continue my summer series on the Ten Commandments. God calls us to honor the human authority that He’s set in place when He commands, “Honor your father and your mother.” What does it mean for children to honor mom and dad? Teenagers? Adult children? And how do we honor authority if that authority is dishonorable?
Next Sunday We Will Celebrate Communion: Prepare your hearts and minds for the celebration by self-examining. The Bible says in I Corinthians 11: 23-29 that we ought to examine ourselves before eating and drinking. This doesn't mean that we make sure we are "good enough" for communion. After all, our salvation is by grace alone. We are not good enough. But we examine ourselves to make sure His grace is at the center of our lives. If our lives are filled with sin, we repent and come in humility to the table. If our lives are a living response to His grace, then we come joyfully through Christ who has freed us from sin and shame. If we do not examine and do not care about our actions, we don't belong at the table because we aren't recognizing the body and blood of Christ which sets us free from all our sins. So self-examine, then come and partake.
On your mark, get set, relaunch! September 18 is approaching rapidly. It will be our big shout-out to the community to come and see Pathway! Reserve the date, and invite your neighbors. Behind the scenes, the relaunch subcommittees are working on marketing, guest services, and service projects. Details will be available soon on how you can participate.
Connections Class: I am planning to hold a Connections Class in July or August. This class is a prerequisite for becoming a member of Pathway Church. Please contact the church office if you are interested, (219) 558-0573.
Upcoming preaching schedule: I will take a turn preaching at Emmanuel Christian Reformed Church (CRC) in Sauk Village on July 10. Their pastor is on medical leave. Pastor Siang Hup will preach here. Pastor Siang is a Burmese pastor. Pathway is sponsoring Pastor Siang as he seeks ministerial status in the CRC, and helps his church to become CRC. Pastor Siang has a calling from the Lord to plant churches in Burmese communities throughout the USA. His next church will likely be in Indianapolis. Many Burmese people came to the USA in the last 20 years due to political and religious persecution in Burma/Myanmar. The US State Department welcomed them ianapolis.and helped them to settle in communities throughout the US. Pastor Siang will target these communities for church plants. Pastor Siang will also preach at Bethel CRC in Lansing that evening.
Yard Signs: They work! Advertise your church in your yard. Pick up a sign or a new wire support frame at the auditorium exit on Sunday.
Upcoming: Save the Following Sundays. Don’t be out of town!
Sept. 4 Labor Day Weekend Distribution of fliers throughout St. John. Sept. 11 Pathway Sunday School begins. Sept. 18 Relaunch Sunday Our big media campaign will, Lord willing, result in a crowd of newcomers to Pathway, some of whom don't yet know Christ or are returning to Him after a time away.
