This Sunday we welcome Pastor Dan Kuiper. His message is "Overcoming Our Shame." Left unaddressed, shame will drain our passion, neutralize our faith, and steal our joy. But there are steps we can take toward overcoming shame and living life to the full as God intended.
Next Sunday we will resume the series "Glittering Vices: Seven Misguided Pursuits of Happiness." At the core of this series is character transformation. Colossians 3:9 “since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” Last week we were introduced to the trees of virtue and vice with roots of humility and pride. These roots are the source of all virtue and vice. Next week we study our first glittering vice - envy. Envy is feeling bitter when others have it better. Envy resents others' gifts from God because they appear better than our own. Envy is a killer. Just witness what it did inside of Cain, resulting in the murder of his brother Abel.
This list of seven is at the core of most sin. There is also an opposing virtue associated with each deadly sin. And there are antidotes to guard against these sins. Join me next week as we learn more.
